Welcome to The Shepherd's Rest

Welcome to our cosy shepherd's hut located on our working family farm in Auchencairn near Castle Douglas in Dumfries & Galloway. 

We are Howard and Jen Armstrong  and we farm cattle and sheep on our 160 acres of land on the coast of south west Scotland. 

We look forward to welcoming you to our little corner of this beautiful county.  

Located just off the A711, we are nine miles from Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie, 11 miles from Kirkcudbright and 20 miles from Gatehouse of Fleet and Dumfries.  We are extremely lucky to live in such a wonderful part of the country, with mountains, beaches and countryside all at our fingertips, but also in easy reach of major towns and cities, with both Edinburgh and Glasgow just two hours away. 

The Shepherd's Rest provides eco-friendly accommodation combining the best of luxury and simplicity. Our little haven is the perfect place to relax as you enjoy watching the wildlife with a cup of tea or glass of wine, enjoy a barbecue on the patio while watching the sun set behind the hills, or indulge in times past with our wide selection of vintage games.
